Help The Single Mothers and Care Givers of our Orphans to become more Self-Sufficient
As we have been engaged in Kenya, our goals have never been to foster dependence on us. We have always been thinking of ways where we help out with making the children and families that support these children self-sufficient.
With that ideal in mind, we have started a program to help the single mothers and care givers for our orphans become self sufficient in caring for the orphans and their own children. In our research with the local community we have discovered that goats, chickens and seeds for planting are a big help in providing for food and extra income, that these families desperately need.
We have also done some researching into beekeeping, and we have already established a beekeeping operation, but it need to be expanded.
The costs are relatively low. Chickens cost $10 each, from local producers, and goats are $50 and $70 for a female and male respectively. Seeds for planting time are $12 for a 5 kg bag (the price here is a large increase in recent times, and is becoming difficult for the families) We want to concentrate mostly on goats and seeds this year (2019).
The bee hives, with bees are more expensive at $140 each, but holds the most promise for generating sustained income!
So, join us in helping these families become more self-sufficient!
